Many people want to lose weight (lose weight) and the reason can be different for everyone. For many, the reason is to look better naked, to feel better about themselves, or to feel (more) sexy. Not surprising, because… who doesn't want to feel SEXY and more comfortable in their own skin?
But
is this why, and therefore this motivation, sustainable? Do this motivation
and mindset ensure real growth and transformation?
MORE REASONS TO LOSE WEIGHT
When
we look deeper, there are more and perhaps more important reasons to discover
why it is great for some people to lose weight.
Losing
excess weight (body fat) can cause:
1.
lowering inflammation (inflammation)
2.
improving multiple blood values
associated with diseases
This
has an effect on:
1. How we sleep
2. How we can recover from exertion
3. How we feel (emotions & mood)
And
this in turn has a major effect on:
What
decisions we make… from relationship to food choices!
The
whole body is therefore losing weight (fat) that can cause many inner changes!
However,
it shouldn't just be about weight loss.
At first, we must think about how we can improve health, so weight loss can be
the additional, side effect. Weight loss is only then sustainable.
By changing this mindset and shifting the focus from "losing weight" to the focus on improving health, weight loss (or muscle gain) will eventually come. Only when your body is healthy and working properly, internal processes such as fat burning or muscle gain will also work better.
With
this mindset, we are better able to lose weight in a more fun and sustainable
way! We do not focus on the kilos and not on the scale, but on our daily
choices (habits) that ensure that we feel more energetic (healthier), fitter,
stronger and happier.
Instead
of starving ourselves or counting calories; we feed ourselves with meals rich
in nutrients, we experience a feeling of fullness for longer, we train harder,
we sleep better and we can make better choices!
THE INTERNAL EMOTIONAL MOTIVATIONS
Also,
wanting to lose weight often has to do with something going on inside. Some
want to experience more self-confidence, or create a better relationship with
food or realize certain dreams, and live life without restrictions.
So
if you are someone who would like to lose some weight (fat), ask yourself:
–
How would it feel for you to lose weight?
–
What will the experience be like?
–
Visualize it, feel it and write it down somewhere.
–
What would you do with more health?
–
What would you do with a fitter and slimmer body?
LOOKING FOR A QUICK-FIX FOR SHORT TERM RESULT
As
humans, we always try to go for the easiest way, the easy way out. That is why
we are always looking for quick fixes instead of long-term changes. We want
quick results and are willing to pay a lot for it.
However, quick fixes are problematic because:
- Little is learned and no mindset change takes place while performing a quick fix. It's easier to be told what to do than it is to think about it for yourself. The HOW, WHAT & WHY is often not understood, while this is precisely so stimulating for our health and for weight loss in the long term. In short; quick fixes cost less energy and effort.
- No permanent changes occur. We do not have to go through certain behavioral patterns and therefore do not have to make difficult choices to change those patterns. Something changed in the behavior temporarily, but internally little changes so that old behavioral patterns eventually win again. This can include, for example, how we deal with stress (overeating and alcohol use), personal relationships, or a bad night's sleep. Problems like these can easily be swept under the rug for another time with quick fixes.
- They can hurt our mental, physical, social and emotional health. The promises surrounding the quick fixes often make no sense, so you expect things that are not possible or start doing untenable things. Certain protocols or supplements can also have a negative effect, so it is always important to keep using your common sense. Quick fixes use an all-or-nothing mindset that takes a lot of motivation… which is mentally exhausting and often leads to disappointment and less self-confidence.
- They insinuate that something needs to be fixed. Which makes you wonder if something is broken or if something needs to be fixed?
Suppose,
on a fundamental level, that you overeat certain foods in the evening that you
know are problematic. This happens because it is the food you easily overeat
(addictive) or because it is the food you eat to deal with stress and fatigue.
Suppose these are the underlying causes of overeating in the evening. A quick
fix like 'juicing' or a long 'fast' will not address the underlying causes of overeating. On a fundamental level, it does not address your relationship
with food (choices) or the way you structure your evening. This leaves you in a
vicious circle of quick fixes that keeps you failing in the long run.
Reflect on your own experiences with quick fixes:
–
What quick fixes have you done in the past?
–
What did it do for you?
–
How did it work for you?
–
Did you notice anything?
–
What is a short-term improvement?
–
What happened in the longer term?
So
when you jump from one quick-fix to another… you're not addressing your
fundamental view of health and weight loss as a whole.
And
even though there are famous people and 'influencers' who bring products
forward, the practice and research show that it is not that simple and that
there is no quick fix or a magic pill.
Health
and weight loss are therefore not so black and white, but very personal and
unique. It is important to fundamentally create a healthy lifestyle that makes
us feel good!
We
do this by examining and optimizing our sleep, nutrition, stressors,
relaxation, relationships, exercise, and mindset. This can result in losing
weight (in fat).
It
is important to be aware that nutrition is more than just calories. Nutrition
is information for the body and ultimately has such an effect on how we feel!
Becoming aware of what kind of food (ingredients) you put into your body, what it
gives you, and how it makes you feel is a good start. Then you go on a personal
level and feel what works for you and is sustainable.
Eating
with logic, on feeling, in a way that you find enjoyable and in a way that is
sustainable and functional for you. And as for supplements, some can certainly
help, but make sure you get the basics right first and foremost.
